One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing an Alaskan Malamute is housing. Alaskan Malamutes are pack-oriented, so they love to be part of the family. The best arrangement is to ensure that your dog can go in and out of your house anytime it desires. Installing a dog door will be the best solution for you and your Alaskan Malamute, and you will have to train it to enter and exit the house through the dog door.

After you have installed the dog door, make sure that the yard where it will lead to is fenced. Your Alaskan Malamute requires a large yard so that it will have enough space to run around. The fence has to be tall and sturdy, so that your Alaskan Malamute will not be able to knock it down. To reinforce the fences, it is also recommended that you bury the wire in the ground. This is to ensure that your Alaskan Malamute won't be able to dig out the fences. This breed of dog has a tendency to dig frequently. One way to satisfy its need for digging is to have a sand box set up in your yard. Place the sand box in a shaded part of your yard, so that it can play and dig there. If your Alaskan Malamute finds a way out of the house, it may cause harm to your neighbors.

Now, if you prefer to kennel your Alaskan Malamute, a kennel with a chain link is the best option. With a large breed such as the Alaskan Malamute, you will need a kennel that is at least eight feet wide and around fifteen to twenty feet long. The height should be at least six feet. There should be a chain link across the top of your kennel. To provide a comfortable home, make sure that you place the kennel in a shaded area. You should also provide your Alaskan Malamute with an insulated dog house to protect it from extreme weather conditions.

If you live in a place with cold climate, your Alaskan Malamute will feel most comfortable since it is an Arctic dog. It can withstand harsh winters as long as you provide enough shelter, such as a sturdy dog house with a flat roof. This will serve as another area for your Alaskan Malamute to hang out because it loves to lie down on top of its house to observe the world. Provide straw bedding in the dog house, which should preferably be an insulated one. There is no need for heating because an Alaskan Malamute is used to the cold weather. It's the hot weather that you should worry about. You should provide a fan during the warmer seasons.
