I love all dogs. Young, old, mutts, purebreds I love them all. I wish I could have more. I think this mix sounds cute but it's a mutt and no way is it a new breed. Breeders who tell you that you are getting a new breed are scamming you. Mutt in my opinion is not a derogatory term. luvpoos if you prefer I can call it a mongrel, crossbreed, or a Heinz 57.

I too love all dogs and that mix does sound cute....but as for AKC papers on it not sure how this goes for a mix and if it's possible.....the parents of my accidental mix puppy were both registered with AKC and they even told me I couldn't register him.....not that I was even thinking about it....I have a boston and Chi and never turned their papers I didn't see the need to since I don't breed nor do I show...they are just my babies......but no matter what all you can do is just love your baby.

Just to add to the discussion, I have a peke a tsu ( I say it like the pokemon character). He's 8 months old and the sweetest little guy I've ever met. I would recommend this bred to anyone, especially those with kids because Rocly loves kids. He is very cute, a lot of people say he looks like gizmo from the gremlins. Both of his parents are registered AKC (mom is pekingese, and dad is shih tzu) and I have papers for him although I'm not planning to use them. If anyone has any info regarding the peke a tsu it would be greatly appreciated.

the dogs nose is runny and squeeks because pekingese's noses do this. since they have a flat face their eyes and nose are really runny and because some shih tzu's have flat faces this can also happen. there's nothing wrong with the nose and eyes being runny, its normal. but you might have to wipe off a few boogers every now and then lol. also dont put a collar on your puppy! pekingese dogs have pressure points on their neck around where a collar should go. if these have to much pressure on them, the eyes can pop out. so make sure you get a comfortable harness for the puppy and dont use a collar. also watch the dog around your child. they're very fragile, but you can still play with them. just be careful with the face and neck.

i've bred shih tzus and i own a pek too.

hi amanda. your pekingese/shih tzu is actually called a pekatzu. there are many people who breed them. I actually have one for sale right now and shes adorable. a lot of people mix breeds. you got yours for a good price. I don't agree with the guarantee you got though. about the papers, always make sure you get everything in writing. people say theres less of a chance with having genetic problems when mixing. not sure if this is true. good luck with your new pup! they are so cute, fun and loving.

I live in NY and I just bought the same dog it's bread on the papers is called Shih Peke and yes I do have papers I paid $1,000 for him and I bought him from a puppy boutique here in NY so yes she can have papers because I do and my puppy resembles a peke. more than the shih tzu and he is mainly white with a few spots and blue eyes he is gorgeous.

wow. this post is an oldie. So you paid a rediculous amount for a mixed breed dog ( mutt) that is registered by some crappy registry. You bought the puppy from a pet store, that more than likely got the pup from a miller. Although the puppy is cute, i feel sorry for the parents of that puppy. As long as people like you keep buying from petstores , or "boutiques",( which is just a glamorized name for a petshop ), the parents of those puppies, will continue to live in hell.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.

WOW!!! You paid about $900 to much for a mix breed. Although she is cute you got ripped off. I have never seen a Shih Tzu or a Pekingese with blue eyes. Very strange. I think maybe they didn't give you the correct mix breed combination of the dog you purchased.

perhaps 2 years too late, but my parents have a peke/shihtzu mix too. they paid a lot for him, but he is beyond the cutest dog i've ever seen!!! if i could find another, i'd get one for myself. so who cares if someone else thinks you paid too much! it's your dog and if love them then what's it matter how much you paid or if they're an official breed? they're darn cuter than most 'real' breeds out there anyway!

This isnt a breed at all it is just another "designer breed". Most of these mixes will have cute, little names but i reccomend just calling it a mutt. Also a 3 day garentee? Whats up with that? And i would have DEFIENTLY researched more NEFORE you got it because now that you have it, it may turn up it has some rare skin condition you can treat but is expensive (just an example). Than what?

It is people like you that keep the PuppyMills and Backyard breeders in business. I am certain you love your dog, but if people keep paying $1000 for mutts why in the Hell would Puppymills stop breeding. I just can believe in the year 2007 that there are still so many people lacking the knowledge to know better than to pay this kind of money for a mutt, from a puppy store, breed by irresponsible breeders. It just makes me ill.

Windy, at the risk of you being angry with me (KIDDING!) I have to agree. Obviously, I have mutts and love them. But I agree with you, If I were going to shell out 1000 $ for a dog, it would definitly be purebred no matter which breed it would be!!

Seeing as you're involved in the dog world, I can see how you don't understand how people lack the knowledge about puppy mills and backyard breeders.
But that would be similar to me saying that it makes me ill that the general public doesn't understand the warning signs, leading causes, modifiable factors and pathophysiology, behind a transient ischemic attack.
Or when I worked for VISA, I couldn't understand how people didn't know about checking their credit history or how to properly calculate the interest charged to their accounts...
...or how someone who works at Starbucks probably can't understand why someone doesn't know how to properly order a Grande, lactaid, low-fat, no-whip, espresso, chocolatte, mocchiato...extra hot....

If someone isn't hearing about/dealing with the issue on a daily basis, or even more common, has never dealt with an issue, ignorance, although poor, is a valid excuse - not everyone in the free world has had a lot of dealings with the "dog world", or has been active in dog/animal rescue nor have a lot of people had the good fortune to have found a web-site like this one where a lot of "reputable breeder" and backyard breeder/puppy mill education information is posted...and not everyone knows to search for that kind of information before they go ahead and buy a puppy...

I speak from experience...and now that I'm better educated (thanks to people like you on this web-page), I'll never make the mistake again! Just remember, not a lot of people do things like buy "papered" mix breeds on purpose, they're ignorant to the reality of the situation and blinded by puppy-love...it's a difficult battle to fight, but more and more people are joining the war everyday....we just have to keep on plugging on.

Doggydaddy, while I do enjoy your posts I think you're way off base on this issue. If I had a VISA I would expect it to be my personal responsibility to learn how to protect myself from misuse & unreasonable interest rates, just as I would find out all I could about TIAs if any of my loved ones experienced 'em. As for ordering some "designer" coffee, that'll never happen so there's no need for me to learn how to do it "correctly".

I would bet, though, that you can't do an Internet search on mixed breeds, particularly "designer mixes", these days without coming across web sites that discuss backyard breeders, puppy mills, et al.

While I've had dogs in my life for over 50 years (a few adored AKC dogs, some lovable clearly defined mixes, & a lot of dearly beloved mutts), it's been my practice to spay or neuter our dogs since I was old enough to be involved in that decision. I've never been involved in the "dog world" other than as a responsible & conscientious dog owner/dog lover & I firmly believe people would have to have lived under a rock not to be aware of pet over-population, the horrific conditions existing in puppymills, & greedy backyard breeders these days.

Way early on (for some "sick" reason), rather than licensing our "kids" by mail, I started the annual practice of taking that "long walk" through our "county pound" & one "long walk" is really all it should take to become aware, educated, & emotionally invested in the problem, & vow not to contribute to it.

I dont think that doggydaddy is way off base at all. I am 52 and have had animals all of my life. It was not until a few years ago that i learned about puppymills, petstores, and bybs. It was not until a few years ago that i ever sat down at a computer. I learned about them from sites like this one. I would not have considered myself ignorant as much as uneducated.
