I have a boxer/beagle mix and she is vey healthy. Mixed breed dogs actually have less health problems than purebreds. She is beautiful and has traits from both parents. And most "purebred dogs" were introduced by mixing breeds of other dogs together. I would much rather have a mixed breed dog than a purebred. There are too many mixed breeds out there with no homes because no one seems to want a mutt. What difference does it make? A dog is a dog, people have different opinions. Mixed breeding/purebreeding all ends up the same, puppies who need homes.

I do agree bogle, if you want a mix get one froma ashelter though, there are to many to keep producing more.

But there has been no study to prove that a mutt is healthier, and a cross of 2 breeds is not likely to be healthier at all. Many people used to believe that mutts were heaalthier because few people brought their mutts to the vet most were purebreds going a sick mutt was offten shot and replaced with another mutt. Mut when people payed they took the extra steps to keep it alive. Today with so many people taking all dogs vet have noticed little dofference in the health of pure and mutts.

I have what I "believe" to be a Beagle/Golden Retriever mix (or Beago) - whatever you want to call him. What he is, is a beautiful, wonderful puppy who is 5 months old with enough personality for 6 dogs. We did not get him from a breeder - we got him through a rescue. Charley is sweet, intelligent, cute as can be, friendly, conversational, and pretty easily trained.

While I'm not much on "designer dogs" - I'm also not much on purebreds and pedigrees... I like my mutts. I will say though - Charley is a great dog. All dogs are different - just like all kids are different - find one that pulls your heart strings and love him with all of your heart.

I know this is a very old thread but my heart just about broke in two when I read the comments.

I love my dogs...one of which is a beagle / golden retriver mix. I didn't buy her because she was of this mix. I bought her from a rescue shelter that had rescued her litter from "death row" at the humane society. I bought her to give her a second chance and because I have a bleeding heart when it comes to shelter animals (our other dog is a shelter rescue as well as our cat). We did not even know what her breed was until she was about 1 year of age. Every vet who has seen her has immediately felt confident that she is both beagle and golden. She bays like a beagle, has a sweet little face like a beagle, is tall like a golden and SHEDS like a golden! We get compliments on her ALL of the time about how beautiful she is (and she is now 3 so apparently she made it out of the "cute" puppy stage unharmed) and how amazing her temperment is.

All in all, I do not believe in cross breeding these dogs if proper precautions haven't been taken. My dog wasn't forcefully bred to be this mix...she is a case of the overpopulation of animals and the growing issue of abandoned pets.

So sir (the initiator of this thread), if you ever read this I sure hope you found your "beago". You will be guaranteed an amazing dog if you did.

Yes, it is an old thead, we like to leave hese old ones die off and make new ones if you have something to share.

I am glad thatou found your mix through a rescue, eveyone here promotes rescue. However, the OP was looking for breeders of these mixes, not rescues. He was given honest and accurate feedback, and if they did indeed find their mix, I hope it was a rescue dog and he didnt reward a 'breeder' for this.

i have a beagle/border collie mix... he's the cutest and most loving dog but VERY hard to train! He stuborn and smart. he was the worst dog in his class and he likes to chase, herd and put his nose to the ground and run. I could never let him off leash in an unfamiliar or busy place, and he was an extremely hyper dog that needed constent attention. he has come along way but seriously i wish people wouldn't breed dogs because their cute or they like two kinds of dogs and want they best of both worlds.

My heart breaks when I see these poor unwanted mixed breeds at shelters. I will probably never have kids and just have dogs because of this:)

I have had a pure bred black lab for 4 years. He was a rescue case (great dog) and a shinese for 12 years (great dog). I recently got a female beago (beagle/golden ret.)and we love her!!! She is so smart (way smarter than my black lab), fun, energetic, healthy as a horse, and has a real maternal/protective side with my children. I am not pro hybrid nor am I antihybrid, but I will say that it doesn't matter either way, because no one (not even breeders who genetically screen) can predict how a dog will turn out. There are plenty of pure breds out there that are horrible (health and personality) and vice versa. I think you should pick what type of dog suits your lifestyle, really check into the breeder, meet the mom and stud that will be making your pet and hope for the best. No matter what no one can guarantee how the pup will turn out, so go with your gut, don't rely on anyone else's opinion! Hope you find the dog you want and good luck.
