A couple of months ago we had our shiba inu groomed; well very hesitant about it because I was scared his oiled coat wouldn't come back. Well, my fiance assured me it would and everything would be fine....I was still scared. So, we had him groomed and they cut the hair shorter than what I thought they would cut it. When I saw my shiba, I did not like what I saw but the deed was done. It has now been a couple of months and his hair has grown back shorter than what he had before, but the oil coat is no longer visible. Does anyone know of a way to re-nourish the shiba's coat back to it's natural state?

When you groom double coated breeds, it can take forever for the coat to come back to its original look. I wouldn't worry about anything just yet. The undercoat is usually what grows in first, and they can look dull. The shiny overcoat, or guard hairs tend to return last. It can take 6months to a year for everything to come back fully. In about 6-8months, if things don't look nice you can try fish oil or vit. E, split the cap. and put on food. I personally(as a groomer) would not clip him again. If you want him groomed, just have the long stuff on the legs and rear trimed and a good bath. That is my personal opinion though.

Not too sure why one would shave a shiba, but it will grow back, I would not do it again like illusion has said, it may grow back thinner each time. I wouldnt trim as suggested either, not much to trim on a Shiba really, they have short short fur on their legs, the scruff is the longest, and the tail.

I always thought Shiba Inus had relatively short coats. Not that I know that much about them. Why did you have him clipped?

Never shave a Shiba inu! It can ruin the coat and make your Shiba very uncomfortable. The Shiba coat is his crown and glory. It keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I would suggest you not shave your Shiba again.

Sorry to say but you ruined your dogs coat.

It will grow in, but it will never be the same.

Of course there's no "I" in team... but hey look! There is an "I" in pie :)
