My American Staffordshire terrier mix, Angel, had a very scary coughing/hacking/choking episode after drinking water today, then twisting around to get a tag taken off of her new harness. She's a little skittish about many things since she just got adopted two days ago, and I'd taken her to a new pet shop right beforehand, which scared her. So I'm hoping this is nothing more than a combination of nerves, water going down the wrong way (she sometimes coughs/hacks once after drinking), her twisting motion and the excitement/stress of all these new sights and sounds.

The cough/hacking sound was almost like she was trying to vomit, but nothing came up.

Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated. I can't tell you how scary it was to see and hear her do this!
