Ok. I just moved from Southern Maine To Laurinburg, NC sandhills everywheres. Im staying with a guy I work for and he has 3 dogs and 1 cat that travel as they want in and outside. Its obvious they have fleas due to missing skin from them itching and biting themselves so much. I just cleaned out the back room which was nasty and damp and i've been getting bite all night. IM GOING OUT OF MY MIND!! This is digusting. I saw two fleas literally jump on my foot and then jet. I dont know what to do cause these dogs are goin in and out of the house as they want . I have a feeling they will keep tracking them in... What should i do?

You are going to have to wash EVERYTHING in hot water. Bed sheets, towels, clothes, and probably set off a flea bomb.

You need to contact a vet and ask them if it is ok for you to use CapStar, which is sold at any local farm supply company. Then, get Comfortis from the vet and give this once monthly. The CapStar will get rid of the infestation and the Comfortis is a preventative. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING WITHOUT SPEAKING WITH A VET FIRST!!!

Whatever you decide to use/do...you must treat both the house and the animals at the same time. The other post is very correct. I went through fleas last year. The biggest pain in the butt around. First, I would call the exterminator. You need to have the entire house treated. I tried a bomb and it didn't work. Next take all linen to get laundered. Run your sweeper twice a day, everywhere! I would get the topical stuff for the animals. It is supposed to kill the live fleas pretty quickly. Make sure you brush them out as well. I know there are also treatments for lawn. I haven't had to use them. I have my animals on the monthly advantage topical as well at the setinal (spelling?) I was not messing around with that stuff this year.

I had a problem somewhat to what you have going on. What I did is I bought a dog shampoo from Dinovite. It is a flee deterrent so you will still need to treat the dogs and cat with like front line or something like that to kill the flees that are already on them. But the shampoo it helped a lot with with not getting any more flees on them and the best part about it is that it is all natural. There are no nasty chemicals or anything like that. I hope it helps.

The absolute very best flea ridding shampoo...plain, original, blue DAWN dishwashing liquid. That is the only shampoo that my dogs are ever bathed in and between using that and the Comfortis, we are flea free!

Dishsoap?? I had no idea that you could use that on dogs. I was always told by my vet that you had to use dog shampoo or you could irritate their skin. I know dogs with skin problems you have to watch though. I don't know if anyone else has heard this but my old dog used to have severe skin problems. I couldn't use any kind of detergent when washing her blankets from her bed or they would make her belly really red and irritated. But dishsoap, that's neat, I didn't realize that.

Uh huh. That's the only soap I've ever put on any of my dogs and we've had them for 16 years! I even bathe my puppies in it before they go to their new homes. The DAWN is gentle enough that it doesn't irritate their skin but it leaves every inch of white so bright and the black looks slick as oil and doesn't dry their skin!

Now keep in mind that my Bostons only get a bath once a month (unless they need another inbetween) but for the most part, the 1st day of the month is bath day. There is something in the DAWN that helps with fleas, too. I don't know about anyone else, but I swear by it for bathing my doggies!

(And remember...only original, plain, blue DAWN...none of the antibacterial, super charged, turbo stuff...just the plain old school dishwashing liquid!)

My 2 year old shar-pei has several allergies, mostly food but also fleas. She chews her bottom and loses all of her hair. I bought the frontline for flea control, washed everything in the house and she still chewed and itched. The vet said that it is because of swelling in the scratches she had from when she had fleas. He gave me new shampoo and some cortisone pills. Even if the fleas are off the dog you can still have the same all the same issues.

my father has used joy dish soap and mouth wash to spray outside yards and pens.. gets rid of fleas, nats, mosq. etc.. we have also used dawn.. good source
