Hey guys I just wanted to know if you guys would answer this question I have been thinking about. So what would you do?

Say you have found this briefcase that had 500,000 dollars in it, would you keep all the money to yourself and don't bother about giving it back to the owner or would you try to find the owner to the money and if you find the owner you would have to give ALL the money back.

I would probably try to find the owner to the money and if I did'nt find the owner I would keep half of it and give the other half to a charity.

If there is no name on the briefcase, how do you find the owner. I am greedy, and assuming it is probably drug money or somthing, I would give most to charity and then put some away for my retirement lol

If there was a name, I would contact that person and ask if they lost a breifcase. I would not mention the money up front. If yes, then i would return it with high hopes of a reward lol

As Illusionminis said, $500k in a suitcase can mean only one thing. Its owner is not some little old lady that just lost her life saving.

I would keep it all and stay low for awhile in case someone is looking for it and me.

But if I hear it does belong to some poor confused old lady that somehow misplaced it, then I will do the right thing... I'll send her a thank you note.

There was a girl in Edmonton that found a garbage bag of money while doing city spring clean up with her school. She handed it over to police, when no one claimed it a few years later it became hers. It was almost assuredly drug money and whom ever owned it did not want to explain to the RCMP why and where, LOL.

I would put a ad in the paper with a P.O. box( not my home address or phone ) and make them discribe what they lost not tell them a brief case if after a year no one claimed it I would give it all away to people I thought needed it ... If I ever won the lottery I would love to buy a bunchof cars and keep them atthe dealship and if i new someone in need I woud tellthem go to the car lot and ick a car from what i bought or to pay off a bill for someone, but .... anonomously
One day this summer my husband and I were having breakfast out and this man in a wheel chair was at the table across from ours he keep asking the waitress what this amount of money would buy including the tax.... my husband told the waitress, after he ordered.... we wanted his bill but to not tell him till we had gone. {that it was paid.} we have done that several time in our life it is such an amazing feeling. and we dont have all that much our selves. but I guess because we have never had it easy and we know others have it worse than us and we want to be an example of what the world COULD be.

Most states have laws regarding such an issue. In Oregon, where I'm at, they require that you turn the money over to the local police and they hold it for 30 days. If it goes unclaimed, or not connected to a crime, then you get it. Personally, I have a house to pay off and kids to put through college, I would not say anything to anyone. I would put it in to a safe/safe deposit box and use it to pay things off little by little. You got to remember, large transactions of cash get the IRS's attention.
