So our county fair is this week and my kids show their horses. Every year for about the past 10 years there have been A LOT of skinny horses at our fair. I think "Ribby" horses are just disgusting. Thin necks, bony butts. FEED YOUR FREAKING HORSES PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

This is a youth/4-H fair, so I blame the parents, but it is also a leaders job to mention to people if they have people in their club with emaciated animals.

There is one girls in the youth classes this year, who gets to represent our county at the State horse show, based on a qualifying show earlier this month.

There are normally about 15 kids in her age group that go to fair, but since only 4 showed up at this show, she gets to go.

HER HORSE IS EMACIATED. I have seen horses in better condition on Animal Cops! You can see her wither-Bones! You can see her spin, ribs, hip-bones. THE HORSE IS ALSO LAME! I don't know or care if it is old or not, because if it is, it should be retired-- not going to fair all week.

I am pretty sure I am going to write the fair board and protest this horse going to State.

I agree, you should def, protest. That is just plain stupid.

Do you guys have 4-h groups like we do here where you could just go to the head and say get that horse fed?

I've seen judges tell them to get off a lame horse to.

Our fair is rather large though so it might be entirely different. Very competitive and my horses who are in good shape would have been laughed out of the ring!

The only other thing I can think of is a really aged horse they may have picked for a child may have issues keeping its topline filled in even if its got muscling other places and some meat as well.

I'd ask their leader/parents/judges why they are allowed to show in that condition.
