Limit additional foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, or other treats to 20% of the bird's total diet. When used as directed, no additional vitamin or mineral supplements are recommended.With time, it is recommended to transition your bird's diet to an adult maintenance form of Exact Rainbow, Exact Original, or Exact Organic. Birds should convert easily because of the compatible textures, tastes, and ingredients they have become familiar with in Exact Conversion & Weaning.Converting to Exact Conversion & WeaningConverting from another extruded diet: Mix the two diets together and over the course of one week, slowly eliminate the old food. This will help avoid the possibility of digestive upsets that may occur.Converting from a seed-based diet: Some coaxing and a little time is required for the bird to adjust to the new food type. Although an immediate conversion is possible, it is recommended to slowly introduce Exact into your bird's diet by mixing it with the old food as directed below. For best results, limit the quantity of food available to the suggested feeding amount.Day 1 - 7: one part Exact/three parts current foodDay 8 - 14: two parts Exact/2 parts current foodDay 15 - 21: three parts Exact/one part current foodAfter 21 Days: Feed Exact only--your bird should be completely converted.Observe your bird closely to ensure it is eating Exact and not searching for its old food. A change in the color of droppings (to a brown or reddish-brown color) should be evident with successful conversion.Conversion time may vary. If you are unsure of adequate conversion, or have any questions regarding the conversion process, call the Kaytee Helpline toll-free 1-800-KAYTEE1.Important NotesWhen more than one bird is kept in a cage, monitor birds very closely to assure all are eating adequately. Extending the conversion process an additional seven days is recommended.Birds should be monitored closely during the conversion process. If the bird becomes listless, sits with its feathers fluffed, or loses weight, it may not be consuming enough food. If these signs occur, immediately provide the old food and a mixture of equal parts Exact and the old food (in separate dishes) until the bird returns to normal activity (approximately three days). At this time, remove the dish of old food and continue the conversion process.Initial acceptance of Exact can be improved by moistening with fruit juice. Be sure to remove uneaten portion within four hours to prevent spoilage.The color of droppings may not be consistent, but they should be well formed.WeaningExact Conversion & Weaning makes an excellent weaning food due to its crunchy, easy to eat texture, high nutritional content, and compatibility with Exact Hand Feeding Formulas.Pre-Weaning: Moisten product with warm water or fruit juice (below 120 degrees F) and finger-feed baby birds. Discard any unused moistened food.Weaning: Place in a clean, shallow dish when baby bird begins to explore its environment.Moist: Moisten as directed above, or mix with chopped or mashed fruits and vegetables, and provide to weaning birds between hand feeding meals. The soft texture makes an ideal transition between hand feeding and dry food. Discard moistened food within four hours.Dry: Provide at all times. Formulated to have a lighter, easy to eat texture, babies will begin to eat it at an earlier age than with a typical dry food. When readily consuming this product, and showing signs of weaning, mix in Exact adult diets as desired.Storage InstructionsFor maximum freshness, store in a cool dry location. Reseal between use. Refrigerate or freeze for extended use.
