Check for key indicators:Poop-pouch should be positioned directly under vent with no major gaps between tail and pouch.FlightSuit should be snug but not tight--pinky finger should fit easily between bird and edges of material.Excess material indicates FlightSuit is too large (i.e. sagging around legs).Elastic strap should fit comfortably over wings or scapular area with no wrinkling--pinky finger should fit easily under straps.Washing InstructionsTurn soiled FlightSuit inside out and match up Velcro fastener.Allow suit to soak in Woolite water mixture for 30 to 45 minutes.Rinse thoroughly in cold water and hang to dry.Tips For UseCheck FlightSuit regularly. Change every four to six hours (small/medium birds), one to four hours (large birds), or when full.Keep bird's nails trimmed to prevent snagging of material.FlightLiners (sold separately) can be placed in the poop-pouch for extra absorption.By gently tugging the poop-pouch towards the tail, the bird's feet will be guided out of the FlightSuit.Conditioning TechniquesIn order to maximize the success when introducing FlightSuits, it is important bird owners take the following steps in the conditioning process. This process will be quicker for younger birds (less than five to six months old); longer for older birds.Allow bird to see the FlightSuit from a comfortable distance--so it may become accustomed to both the color and fabric. Minimum time: two to three days.Slowly and gradually (over time) move the FlightSuit closer to the bird and cage. Minimum time: two to three days.Pin the FlightSuit onto shirt and allow bird to explore it during "cuddle time".Pet or caress bird with FlightSuit hanging around cage, allowing bird to examine or explore the suit. Minimum time: two to three days.Put hand inside FlightSuit and scratch bird gently. When mutually ready to "test fly" the FlightSuit, remove bird food for two to three hours, put suit on, and immediately reward by feeding. This serves as a positive reinforcement as well as distraction.Use the following examples for positive reinforcement while birds are in FlightSuits:Offer plenty of verbal praise.Make for quality one-on-one time away from cage.Treat bird to a favorite toy or a favorite treat: peas, corn, millet spray.Take bird outside for a special outing (with leash).Birds may nibble on elastic until accustomed to FlightSuit. This should diminish over time. To minimize, spray bitters on FlightSuit.Set Includes Lanyard and LifeRing: To UseSimply sandwich LifeRing adapter between existing FlightSuit Velcro strips, ensuring Velcro is evenly aligned. Lanyard tip with LifeRing (grommet) should extend from base, so Velcro is snug and grommet has maximum freedom of movement.PointersAvian Fashions advocates prudent wing clipping to minimize risk of losing treasured birds. Reducing a bird's ability to fly wisely limits unwanted take-off attempts. Pet accessories, especially a means of restraint such as a harness or leash, require care when introducing. No amount of wing clipping or restraint can substitute careful supervision. Regularly inspect Lanyard and LifeRing for fatigue or wear.
