How The Test Strips Work: 1. Remove one strip from bottle and hold at end with no pads. Dip strip into the water to be checked and remove immediately. Be sure to dip all five pads into the water, Do not shake excess water from strip. 2. Hold strip level and allow colors to develop. At 30 seconds compare pH, hardness, alkalinity, and nitrite pads to color chart and record the results to your best estimated value. At 60 seconds compare nitrate pad to color chart, record results and dispose of test strip. Strips cannot be reused. Refer to water quality guide for adjustments. 5 in 1 indicator. Nitrate up to 40 ppm can be tolerated by most fish. Nitrite above 1 ppm causes stress, 5.0 ppm is toxic. Hardness Community tank range is 120-300 ppm, Alkalinity (Buffering Capacity) Community Tank range is 120-240 ppm. pH Community tank range is 6.8-7.6 ppm.
